In celebration of 50 years of steadfast financial support for the UF College of Medicine’s Graduate Education Research Symposium, the UF Medical Guild has honored its long-time friend and colleague, Dr. Thomas Rowe, by establishing the Thomas C. Rowe, PhD Advancement to Candidacy Award. This endowed tribute is made possible through a generous $74,134 gift from the Guild.

Formerly supported through annual gifts from the Guild, the fund has now been endowed to offer lasting support. It will annually recognize and award three to four third-year Biomedical Sciences graduate students who have successfully completed their qualifying examinations.

With this gift, the Guild continues to support the mission of the Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences to provide a predoctoral educational experience that will train experimentalists and scholars for a wide range of careers.

This donation also marks the Guild’s fifth endowed gift, bringing their cumulative contributions to UF Health to over $2.75 million. The Guild’s earlier endowments have benefited the Equal Access Clinic Network, the Medical Guild Graduate Research Symposium Awards, Palliative Care and Patient and Family Resources at UF Health hospitals.

With this latest endowment, the Guild continues to ensure that medical research at UF Health receives support, reinforcing its long-standing tradition of generosity and community service.
